TORONTO – Guelph MPP and Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner has tabled a motion calling on the Ford government to implement a plan to utilize available vacant land to increase the supply of affordable homes within existing boundaries.

“Time and time again, the Ford government has failed to put forward any serious solutions to increase Ontario’s housing supply without sprawling onto our farms, forests and wetlands,” said Schreiner in a news release.

The City of Guelph and a private citizens' group are both currently looking for donated land to house the homeless.

“By building more kinds of homes on under-utilized land in existing neighbourhoods, we can create more choices, more ownership opportunities and more vibrant communities to live, work and play," Schreiner said.

“Greens have an ambitious plan to legalize more kinds of housing in the communities we already spend our time in.

“I hope the government will take this opportunity to restore hope to an entire generation of young people who have given up on home ownership by supporting this motion.”
